Serious Monologue

So, on Thursday I have my drama final. I am really excited about it, because we get to do a serious monologue and a comitic one. And we are able to write our own if we want too. Well I did not want to write my own, just because but I found something better. My family has all of my Opa and Oma's letters to each other during the war times and my Opa was away. Well I took one of my Omas letters and shortened it, (because I had to, they are really long) and that is what my serious monologue is going to be. And then I felt as if I should share. So here is my monologue. (and for those in my class..... hopefully it will be well done!)

My dear Henry,

Here I am again, already late Sunday night and only now ready to write more. Thursday Annie came, Friday was Dini’s birthday, and we spent all day there. That is the reason why I had much to do in the evening and could not write you. Then Saturday Jo was here and now all evening Hans and Cobie. It is 11pm now but I don’t go to bed yet because I long so much to talk with you.

It was a fine Sunday night for me. We talked about our faith reliability and our riches in connection with the sermon of this morning. I sure would like it if your conversations with visitors were more of that kind. We are blessed to have a few good friends. If Piet comes we really can talk about anything, the unrest and difficulties of our times go deeper then before, our frail existence is more real with the casualties from air battles and bombardments. The Hague had sixty dead and twice that many severely wounded after a few buildings were hit with only bombs from four planes! How terrible it will be when they come with 500? Henry dear boy, may God protect you from such a terror. “Even so” I said, “we should still be able to trust completely in God’s care.”

My head and mind are disturbed when I think about what would happen if you became a casualty. I know it’s wrong to think that way. In my thoughts you have the highest place, while Christ must have center space. I mean my desires were fulfilled by you instead of letting Christ reign from the throne in my heart. It’s not always so, I have also calm and trusting times and light on the way. Still often I feel a struggle for trust, in the reality of life. One moment I pray “your will be done” and the next in self pity I think “how lonesome I am, how much I miss him.” That is not good. Rev. Kuyper also warned us against the poverty of our thoughts and discipline. “Lord make us in everything trusting children in Your service.”

Harm talks a lot about his papa. Last week a boy said to him “my dad made this little car.” Said Harm, “my papa is so strong and so smart he makes allies.”

Tuesday

So, Tuesday starts my exams, it is also the last day of classes. I can not believe that it is almost finished already. I have half a year left before I graduate, and I am thinking of special needs teaching. So thats two more years. Fun fun for me! AHHH I dont want to think about it. I might have to take a summer course so that I am able to go and take the program but we will see what is going to happen.
Anyway... I am also excited because Leah and I are going to spend a number of hours together on tuesday. ROAD TRIP!!! So excited. imagine the fun we are going to have!!! I can, oh I can.

Well sing and dance just for today.

My Ethics Paper

Wow, so I have just spent the last 3 hours writing my ethincs paper. I am taking a break because if I just keep writing things are not going to make sense anymore. I am really enjoying this paper and I am half way done. I am glad Pastor G. moved the due date up to Thursday because then I can finish it monday, leave it alone until wednesday (or Tuesday) I do have another paper to write for Psy. And then go over it again. This is a good paper to write, although I am getting a little preturbed about it. It is based on the question should we, today’s population, sterilize people with disabilities so that the next generation is disabled free? Wow, yes this is a loaded question and I came up with it myself. It's great, but for the past hour I had to plag devils advocate. And this could have been easier, but I work with people with disabilities, so it was no easy task! But I got through it, and hopefully I will have an easier time typing out the against portion of the paper. It had to have for against and my opinion. So it is going to be a great paper when it it finished. Anyway I am going to go and make myself some dinner. Take a break till I think 7 then type a little bit more. (and by a little I am hoping to have almost all, if not all done by lets say 9) THen off I go to finish my house work, and biblestudy.

Oh and if you happen to want to know a good movie to see. I recommend Happy feet. I like it, it has some good symbolizm.

SWEET!!

So, I was a little bit of a wreck this afternoon. Not because of anything school wise, or because my friend might have put in my head my parents could be dead. (only because they have not called yet. DOnt worry they are not!) But because today I went to work. Instead of going where I have been going for the past 5 years, I drove a little farther and went to a different house. Inside was a different person. And what a wonderful person he is. Okay so I instantly fell in love. I know we are going to have our own challenges, and we are going to have to get to know each other. What person doesn't. But he is one of the coolest guys ever. OH I can not wait for the adventures we are going to have. And the good thing..... his family likes me too! YES, praise the Lord! I feel blessed that God has once again provided me with a child to work with. Praise Him.

Another reason I love what I do!

My cousin sent me this post over an email. I think it is beautiful, and I wonder, if we were in the same situation would we have done the same thing? I pray that we would!

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled
children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech
that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After
extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a
question: "When not interfered with by outside influences,
everything nature does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay,
cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand
things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things
in my son?"

The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued. "I believe, that when a child like Shay,
physically and mentally handicapped comes into the world, an
opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it
comes in the way other people treat that child."

Then he told the following story:

Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys Shay
knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, "Do you think they'll let
me play?" Shay's father knew that most of the boys would not want
someone like Shay on their team, but the father also understood
that if his son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-
needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by
others in spite of his handicaps.

Shay's father approached one of the boys on the field and asked
not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for
guidance and said, "We're losing by six runs and the game is in
the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to
put him in to bat in the ninth inning."

Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile,
put on a team shirt. His Father watched with a small tear in his
eye and warmth in his heart. The boys saw the father's joy at
his son being accepted. In the bottom of the eighth inning,
Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three. In
the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in
the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was
obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field,
grinning from ear to ear as his father waved to him from the
stands. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored
again. Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential
winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.

At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance
to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone
knew that a! hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even
know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing
that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in
Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so
Shay could at least make contact. The first pitch came and Shay
swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps
forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. As the pitch came
in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back
to the pitcher.

The game would now be over. The pitcher picked up the soft
grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first
baseman. Shay would have been out and that would have been the
end of the game.

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's
head, out of reach of all team mates. Everyone from the stands
and both teams started yelling, "Shay, run to first! Run to
first!" Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made
it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and
startled.

Everyone yelled, "Run to second, run to second!" Catching his
breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling
to make it to the base. By the time Shay rounded towards second
base, the right fielder had the ball . the smallest guy on their
team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team.
He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag,
but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too,
intentionally threw the ball high and far over the
third-baseman's head. Shay ran toward third base deliriously as
the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.

All were screaming, "Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay"

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help
him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted,
“Run to third! Shay, run to third!"

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the
spectators, were on their feet screaming, "Shay, run home! Run
home!" Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as
the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team.

“That day", said the father softly with tears now rolling down his
face, "the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true
love and humanity into this world".

Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having
never forgotten being the hero and making his father so happy,
and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her
little hero of the day!

I'll miss you buddy!

Five years, five years and its over. Just like that! You know, I was supposed to leave this year anyway and say good bye. I was supposed to stop working anyway.

But like this? To leave without saying goodbye? To know that your there, and that your still struggling, to know that I am not able to help you anymore, that I done all I can. And now I just have to sit back and let life run it's course. Its like saying good bye to my other family. I know at school they always taught us to never get to attached. But after five years!! If someone is not attached then, there must be something wrong with them!

But alas, it's over and its back to the drawing board for me. I dont think I will have a problem finding another job, but still. It doesn't seem real.

I'll miss you buddy! You have put so much sunshine in my life, and you have helped make me who I am today. Promise me you will hang in there! Promise me you will continue to grow, and that you will grow up to be whatever you want to be. I know I am not "allowed" to say this but, I LOVE YOU!

September 11 Five years ago

Five years ago, was a day in history that we will never forget. Terrorists attacked the US. Trying to bring them down. Instead the world saw the United states growing Closer together. Proving to be a strong nation. One nation over God. One thing that sticks out in my mind, is when President Bush quoted the 23 psalm. Reminding the country that it was in God that they should trust.

Many people lost their lives that day, tragedy struck household after household. Families lost loved ones, parents lost children. A day they will never forget for many different reasons.

One live that was lost was Victor Paz- Gutierrez. He was in the world trade tower the day it fell down. He was a 43 year old pastry chef, working in Windows on the world in the trade tower. He will never be forgotten, and is survived by those whom loved him.

I pray for his family today. May they have peace, and may they take comfort in the Lord. May their memories of him be fond ones, and may they always remember the life he lived.

Rest in peace Mr. Gutierrez.

My Big Brother Got Married

Well, my big brother got married. I figured that I should write about it, just because I want to. First I have to say, Laura made her dress. I KNOW she looks AMAZING! Well, the day went by well. Rehearsal was entertaining. I was not singing well. But I thought it was nerves. (it was Tonsilities though!) Anyway but everything was going smooth, and the church looked beautiful.

The wedding eve, Henry and I drove back from Neerlandia by ourselves. It was an increadably special time that I will never forget. I think the memory of that night will forever stick in my head and my heart.

The day brought nerves, but Henry was pretty calm in the morning. (before breakfast) And then I did not see him till he was dressed at the church. On the way there, mom and I had some quality time together which was nice. We practised singing and just were able to be together. The wedding was beautiful. I almost cried when Henry looked at me before Laura walked down the isle. He just looked so happy and ready to get married. So excited. And then I almost cried when I saw her. Waves of "Oh wow! she looks beautiful, and I am going to have a sister soon." hit my head. So then I cried when they said their vows. Only because it was so beautiful and I could once again see the love that my brother has for Laura and the love she has for him.

I then had to go up and sing. After hearing myself on tape I believe I did an okay job. I sure choked out the first verse though. (Yep I was crying) But it went well. Henry and Laura were married.

The reception was fun. My father and i did a wonderful skit about computers and had everyone laughing. Ashley and I took the "hole in the bucket" song and changed it to "theres a bug in my softwear" That was fun. And then I said a little something. NOw that was hard. I dont know how many have actually gone out and said something at a brother or sisters wedding. (or even someone you are close too) But its hard. It was good. Once again by the end of it there were tears (but not just from me!)

Family pictures was fun. I think at that time I was starting to feel the fact that I was sick. (without telling anyone... thats what happens when you dont want to get sick, you go in denial!) And also just emotional. But it was good.

Then when Henry and Laura came to say goodbye, once again I just saw the love in their eyes. And I know that this is not a love that can be created by man alone. But by GOD. I thank God for the fact that Laura and Henry are so in love, and I pray that they will always grow more and more in Christ and that their love stays the same always!

Capstone

AHHH!!! Okay so Capstone permission slip signed. Now all I need is to find songs that fit my theme that is going to take 45-60 minutes. Rent the church, find people to sing with me, sing for me. Pick their songs. Find someone who will play piano. (I know of someone I just have to ask him!) Figure out everything else. See if there are going to be other instruments. (Like flute, cello, guitar!) you know. Pick an MC. (I have someone in mind!) Pick the date. (sometime in March!) Learn songs. Sing songs. Right an amazing write up, get people to come! Get good mark!! AHHHHHHH!!!!! (I can not believe I am graduating!) Oh so here is where I ask.... any of you want to help with a capstone? Say yes please say yes! Alyson wants YOU!

Sweet. (sarcastic)

So Henry and Laura's wedding went well, but I had a sore throat before it. I ignored it until after the wedding. And today I looked in my mouth at my throat, and thought I should show my mom. So... I did, and guess what! I am starting school off with tonsilities!! AGAIN!! But with care and tenderness, I will be able to start school on Tuesday/ Wednesday. But what a way to start. That is why it is so Sweet! (cough cough!) More wedding stories later, i am going to go and gargle with salt water. YES! (rolling my eyes!)
